Art Therapy [Individual]

Art is therapy! Each week, our caring art therapists conduct individual art therapy projects with those receiving treatment at the Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Medicine. To request a session, please email alivernasco@gildasclubchicago.org or talk with your healthcare provider.

You don’t have to be “good” at art to benefit from art therapy. In fact, to simply make art is to be good at it. Art therapy provides joyful healing, self-confidence, inner peace, problem solving, and communication.

Celtic Mindfulness: Sound Healing Meditation

Thursdays | 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM | Virtual

Celtic Mindfulness is a concept created by Frank O’Connor, a meditation coach, counselor, and musician of many years. The intention is to incorporate the rich and empowering aspects of ancient Celtic practices along with chanting, music, and guided meditation.

The benefits of meditation are broad. Mayo Clinic has shared that, “Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don’t end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions.”

Facilitator:
Frank O’Connor, C.MI.

Reiki

Saturday LIVE! | 4th Saturday of the Month | 30-minute sessions | GCC Clubhouse at Advocate Christ Medical Center Outpatient Pavilion (4440 W 95th, Oak Lawn)

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, the therapist will work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki practitioners may utilize a gentle laying on of hands or may just hover above the body to conduct the necessary energy force. The benefits of Reiki range from deep relaxation to the release of mental/emotional stress and alleviation of chronic pain. Everyone’s experience is different. Reiki is not an alternative to conventional medicine but a complementary healing modality.

Seven individual Reiki sessions will be available in 30-minute increments between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM.
